Successful Spring Giving Campaign Raises Over $1 Million for Scholarships
Thanks to the many generous contributions from the Southern Virginia University community, including a dollar-for-dollar match up to $500,000 from an anonymous donor, Southern Virginia exceeded the full match and raised over $1,000,000 for scholarships.
“We are grateful for the generosity of our friends who seek to lift the rising generation and encourage them to reach their divine potential,” said President Bonnie H. Cordon. “These contributions are more than financial gifts—they are expressions of faith in our students’ futures and in the mission of Southern Virginia University as we help these young men and women become future leaders of the world.”
“We are excited for the success we’ve had because it’s our first time running a spring campaign,” added Deidra Dryden, the vice president of advancement. “We’re so excited for the matching donor and for the many kind individuals who have helped us raise over a million dollars.”
The money donated will go towards the university’s general scholarship fund, which provides funding for institutional scholarships such as academic scholarships, performance scholarships, return missionary scholarships, and seminary and institute scholarships.
“This will have the greatest direct impact on all of our students,” said Jessi Whipple, the director of advancement operations. “It helps them come to campus and take advantage of every opportunity available to them here. We want to make our education as affordable as possible for as many as possible.”
“We are grateful for everyone who gave to the campaign,” continued Whipple. “It makes such a difference, and it really does impact these students knowing that they’re supported, and they have friends of the university who are here and want them to succeed.”
Scholarships allow students to better access the high-quality, Christ-centered education Southern Virginia University provides, and enables them to more fully focus on their education as well as participate in campus life and extracurricular activities.
